Strong foundation and meaningful life
Dharam had finally managed to collect enough money to build his multi-storeyed building. Ever since his ancestral house had been burnt down, he dreamt of owning a building bigger than the one that had been burnt down. He interviewed many people and finally selected Karam, a well-known architect and engineer to be given the work. Soon the work started. A week passed, Dharam went to see the progress on his building. Seeing the labourers busy lifting the sacks of cement from one place to another and doing other related works, he was satisfied. The next week, Dharam again went to see the building progress and was very happy. But in the third week, Dharam was deeply dissapointed. The digging was going deeper and deeper but there was no sign of any building activity at all. Dharam called Karam and said, "What is this? Your labourers are merely digging holes in the ground. When will you start building?" Karam replied, "You want a three storeyed building. The higher the building the deeper must be the foundation. If the foundation is not strong enough to hold the building, the building will collapse. Dharam's eyes opened wide. He listened as Karam went on, "This principle is applied in building a beautiful and a meaningful life. We must lay a deep and strong foundation of good thoughts, moral values and helpful deeds. Then the building of our life will stand strong and deep , unshaken by the trials and troubles that might come in our way."
